【摘要】:Thedataobtainedbythistestmethodareusefulforestablishingstressversusfailuretimerelationshipsinacontrolledenvironmentfromwhichthehydrostaticdesignbasisforplasticpipematerialscanbecomputed.(RefertoTestMethodD2837andPracticeD2992.)Inordertodeterminehowplasticswillperformaspipe,itisnecessarytoestablishthestress-failuretimerelationshipsforpipeover2ormorelogarithmicdecadesoftime(hours)inacontrolledenvironment.Becauseofthenatureofthetestandspecimensemployed,nosinglelinecanadequatelyrepresentthedata,andthereforetheconfidencelimitsshouldbeestablished.Note38212;Somematerialsmayexhibitanonlinearrelationshipbetweenlog-stressandlog-failuretime,usuallyatshortfailuretimes.Insuchcases,the105-hourstressvaluecomputedonthebasisofshort-termtestdatamaybesignificantlydifferentthanthevalueobtainedwhenadistributionofdatapointsinaccordancewithTestMethodD2837isevaluated.However,thesedatamaystillbeusefulforqualitycontrolorotherapplications,providedcorrelationwithlong-termdatahasbeenestablished.Thefactorsthataffectcreepandlong-termstrengthbehaviorofplasticpipearenotcompletelyknownatthistime.Thisproceduretakesintoaccountthosefactorsthatareknowntohaveimportantinfluencesandprovidesatoolforinvestigatingothers.Creep,ornonrecoverabledeformationforpipemadeofsomeplastics,isasimportantasactualleakageindecidingwhetherornotapipehasfailed.Specimensthatexhibitlocalizedballooning,however,mayleadtoerroneousinterpretationofthecreepresultsunlessamethodofdeterminingcreepisestablishedthatprecludessuchapossibility.Circumferentialmeasurementsattwoorthreeselectedpositionsonaspecimenmaynotbeadequate.Greatcaremustbeusedtoensurethatspecimensarerepresentativeofthepipeunderevaluation.Departurefromthisassumptionmayintroducediscrepanciesasgreatas,ifnotgreaterthan,thoseduetodeparturefromdetailsofprocedureoutlinedinthistestmethod.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofthetime-to-failureofboththermoplasticandreinforcedthermosetting/resinpipeunderconstantinternalpressure.1.2Thistestmethodprovidesamethodofcharacterizingplasticsintheformofpipeundertheconditionsprescribed.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
